Each One Reach One (EORO) has both paid and volunteer positions.
We pay mentors, who work daily during our two-week programs (35-hour
commitment), and we ask professional actors to volunteer in performing
our young writers' plays (a half-day commitment). In addition we
seek volunteers to help EORO design its show programs, raise funds,
plan events, provide office support and maintain its website.
Populations we serve: Incarcerated youth between the ages of 12-18.
Places we work: Programs run in juvenile halls and continuation
and alternative high schools in San Mateo and San Francisco counties.
Our office is in Pacifica. Some volunteer opportunities can be filled
from your home.
Our mentors are professional playwrights and actors. They
undergo screening (required by state law) and receive training.
Read more about these job opportunities.
Our volunteer actors can build their professional portfolios
while bringing our young writers' stories to life! Read more about
performing with us.
Our other volunteers sustain our programs to mentor our
youth through theater arts. Read about other
ways to volunteer.
mentors
| EORO pays mentors to support our young writers
as they learn new tools of improvisational acting, sensory exercises,
and dramatic language and structure. This is done within an
intense two-week framework, which requires a 35-hour commitment
from our mentors. |

You'll find that these positions are rewarding, challenging, and
provide meaningful, creative experiences to our young writers. Support
these young people as they explore and develop their voice, express
their feelings, and through playwriting discover success and self-confidence.
Pay: We pay Mentors a stipend of $225-500 per two-week program,
based on experience and familiarity with the EORO process.
Hours: Mentors participate throughout each two-week program.
Programs run Monday-Friday, where mentors meet with the young writers
for two hours daily for the first nine days. On the last day of
the program, mentors stay with their students to go through the
rehearsal for their plays, share dinner, and watch staged readings
by professional actors before an audience of student peers, facility
staff and the young writers' families, followed by a celebration.

Depending on the facility, some programs are conducted
during the day, and some in the evening.

Hire process: Once we receive a request
of interest from you, we follow these steps:
- Interview with the EORO's Program Manager.
- Background check: the State of California
requires that all employees or volunteers who work within
these facilities must have a criminal background check.
This process may include forms, photograph and fingerprinting.
Some facilities also require tuberculosis tests and physical
exams. EORO provides all necessary paper work to complete
the background check before the playwriting program starts.
- EORO orientation: All mentors must attend
an orientation before each program, where they meet with
EORO's teaching instructor and other mentor.
- Facility orientation: Some facilities also require
an orientation, which usually lasts about an hour. During
these orientations the mentors find out about the problems
their young writers face in their lives, and learn techniques
and tips on dealing with potential obstacles.
- Further training: EORO gives all mentors a detailed
"Program Information Sheet," describing special issues and
specific work environment circumstances for facilities.
Periodically we invite mentors to dine with each other and
share their experiences in an informal gathering.

for
professional actors
EORO seeks actors who donate their talents and hearts to bring
our young writers' plays to life! If you're a professional actor,
here's a way for you to help these young men and women and have
a voice in their community. Performers rehearse the young writers'
plays (with the young writers in attendance), share dinner with
them and their mentors, perform the staged readings before an invited
audience of family, peers, facility staff and the general public
and join the celebration following the performance.
You'll discover that these young writers have talent, and that
their stories define these young people from a very different perspective
than that portrayed in the media. Your performance provides recognition
that what they say is important and is often the first time they
experience public success.
Hours: Performers commit to a half-day for each program
on the last day of the two-week session, typically a Friday from
4pm to 9pm.
